Is immediate realization of our true Nature Being possible?
As hard as it is for some to believe, you can experience your true nature right here, right now. Why? Because your true nature is what you are. You are Infinite Consciousness, pure Love. The truth of what you are has always existed, and always will. The truth of your nature is available right now, because it resides inside of you, as you. The awakened realm is never found by seeking, but by effortless being.
And yet, people sometimes share how they were able to abide in Infinite Being while attending an awakening retreat or Satsang, only to discover that it “left” when they departed the gathering. Feelings of “coming and going” or, I “had it then lost it” can create confusion. After a while, it becomes apparent that it is not the peace of our inner Being that is coming and going, but our thought patterns, feelings, and physical sensations. Like clouds moving across the sky, these changing phenomena appear to block the Light of our shared nature. Limiting thoughts, beliefs, perceptions, judgments, resentments, memories, and bodily sensations are the clouds which appear to obscure our Being. And chronic physical pain, depression, anxiety, and fear can feel like dark, heavy clouds that will not budge.
This is a natural part of awakening. Most of us do not experience full-blown, spontaneous awakenings where all the conditioning and programming dissolves all at once. During your awakening, clouds will arise. Old thought patterns, painful memories of being hurt by someone or hurting another emerge. There are times when these shadows appear taller than the light of our soul. But these clouds need to arise and are an important part of the process. You do not need to delve into them, or to “fix” anything. We are not talking about self-improvement or engaging in “deep meditation.” These clouds are inviting you to stand still.
Effortless Letting Go
Allow yourself to stop doing anything and just deeply relax. Effortlessly let go. Surrender any resistance to your thoughts, feelings, and any physical sensations. As you remain still you are empowering yourself to gently shine the light of Awareness on everything that is arising. Watch the temptation to get busy, to move, to turn your attention away from what is arising. But remain grounded in the field of unified awareness. Rest in your true nature, the pure, formless awareness that you are. Trust. Let go.
And yet, this can be difficult.
In my own experience, while awakening from the separate self, coupled with an intense energetic shift in the physiology (which some refer to as Kundalini), I lived in a state of pure bliss for five months. It took a while to discover that this was a temporary expanded state. Though the bliss was still present, what then surfaced were limiting beliefs and patterns that still existed (despite decades of inner work). There were even times during the middle of the night when flashbacks from former traumatic events emerged. It became clear that the unconscious mind was emptying itself and at the same time, providing a chance to remain rooted in the Being. Loving detachment, plus witnessing what was arising while remaining grounded in Being was needed.
This is the ultimate invitation during the awakening process: effortless letting go.
So, yes, it is possible to realize the truth of your Being right now. Absolutely it is. It is the Path-less Path, the Journey-less Journey.
Right now, stop whatever you are doing, remain still and allow whatever is surfacing to surface. Do not bite the hook. There is no need to hold onto anything, and no need to push anything away. Just relax. If painful memories, negative beliefs, and old programs arise, they will dissolve into the Awareness from which they came. Be patient, loving and kind to yourself. Non-resistance and gentle observation are like the wind that clears the clouds away from the sky of your mind.
In this moment, gently focus your attention beyond the thoughts, feelings, and any sensations in the body… Just notice this phenomenon… Now place your awareness on the quiet river of peace that resides beyond the mind and body… Effortlessly let go… Relax into the stillness… Let your mind take a break for there is nothing to do, nothing to think about, nothing to feel… Just relax into your Being… Feel the invisible Truth of your Being peacefully enveloping you… This profound peace expands in the stillness and wisps of genuine happiness begin to awaken… Longing for this peace and happiness leads to deeper devotion to your Being, and then to longer periods of abiding in It.
